    ANTI-TUBERCULOSIS
    DRUGS

    First line anti-TB drugs (loose forms)


    1. Ethambutol
    HCL 200 mg tablet, 400 mg tablet



    Indication: In
    combination with other anti-TB medications for TB treatment. For adults TB
    cases only during Intensive Treatment Phase.






    Dosage: Intensive Phase: 15 mg/kg of body weight
    daily (maximum dose 1200 mg daily)






    2. Isoniazid
    100 mg tablet, 400 mg tablet



    Indication: In
    combination with other anti-TB medications for TB treatment. . For adults TB
    cases during Intensive and Maintenance Treatment Phase






    Dosage: Intensive Phase: 5 mg/kg of body weight
    daily (maximum dose 300 mg daily)



    Maintenance
    Phase: 5mg/kg/day, max 300mg daily






    3. Rifampicin
    150 mg capsule, 300 mg capsule



    Indication: In
    combination with other anti-TB medications for TB treatment. For adults TB
    cases during Intensive and Maintenance Treatment Phase.






    Dosage: Intensive Phase: 10 mg/kg of body weight
    daily (maximum dose 600 mg daily)



    Maintenance Phase : 10 mg/kg of body weight daily
    (maximum dose 600 mg daily)






    4. Pyrazinamide
    500 mg tablet



    Indication: In
    combination with other anti-TB medications for TB treatment. For adults TB
    cases only during Intensive Treatment Phase.






    Dosage: Intensive Phase: 25 mg/kg of body weight
    daily (maximum dose 1500 mg daily)






    First
    line anti-TB drugs (Fixed Dose Combination) for Intensive Phase





    1. Combination
    of Rifampicin 150mg, Isoniazid 75 mg, Pyrazinamide 400mg, Ethambutol HCL 275 mg



    Indication: For
    treatment of adults TB patients only during Intensive Phase of treatment.



    Dosage: - Based on body weight:


    - 30-37
    kg: 2 tablets daily



    - 38-54 kg: 3 tablets daily


    - 55-70kg: 4 tablets daily


    - > 70 kg: 5 tablets daily






    Pyridoxine (Vitamin B6)


    1. Pyridoxine
    (Vitamin B6) 10 mg tablet



    Indication: Prophylaxis
    against isoniazid neuropathy



    Dosage: 20mg daily





    Side effects of anti-TB drugs:


    Major side effect

    Minor side effect

    Jaundice

    Discolouration
    of urine ( orange/yellow urine)


    Persistent
    vomiting


    Mild
    nausea with occasional vomiting


    Visual
    impairment


    Abdominal
    discomfort


    Confusion

    Lack
    of energy


    Skin
    rash and itch


    Mild
    skin rash and itch




    Joint
    pain
